Discussion status of the “Leaning Barn”; Owner Scott Chenier & Jayson Martin; 205 E. Main St.;
Tax ID# 176-031911187000
Owner, Scott Chenier was present for the meeting. Mr. Chenier stated that he recently moved back into the Village to live and is trying to resolve the issue surrounding the integrity of his barn. He’s has been working and living in Missouri. Scott’s father was also present for the meeting. Mr. Chenier (father) tried to resolve the problem for his son while he was out of town; however the contractor they hired to do the repair took their money and never did the repair.
Scott stated that he is now trying to research options as to how to fix or raze his barn. He stated he has contacted the Wisconsin Historical Society in order to get some kind of grant or financial assistance to help with the financial burden of fixing the barn. There is a tax credit he can claim for repairs that he may do to the barn. He has contacted some contractors for an estimate to fix or straighten the barn, but he has not heard back from anyone so he has no idea the cost of fixing the barn.
He has received one quote from Wood Joiners in Beaver Dam, to raze the barn for $5,000. He would rather not lose the barn but will do what he has to do to resolve the problem in the most economic way for himself. He stated he also has the barn up for sale on www.barnpages.com but has not had any interested parties.
Consensus of the Plan Commission was to table the discussion until Mr. Chenier has received more quotes on fixing or raising the barn. Lee Greivell, Building Inspector stated he would like to see it back on the agenda for next month’s Plan Commission meeting. It was agreed to table until next month’s meeting.
Jim Joseph moved, 2nd by Dean Stapleton to adjourn at 7:33 p.m. Motion carried.
Respectfully submitted,
Sandi Swan, Planning Secretary
